1. Sprayfo dosage
With regard to the health status of the calf it is important to check the dosage of Sprayfo per litre milk. A calf will not drink milk that is too thick and milk that is too thin will not properly digest due to malfunctioning of the oesophageal groove reflex. To control the Sprayfo dosage the Kit offers a measuring can for water and powder, a thermometer and a digital scale.
2. Ventilation conditions
The ventilation in the calf stable is very important. Calves need fresh air to stay healthy. On the other hand they are sensitive to airflow. The airflow near the calves should not be more than 0.2 m/sec. To measure both the flow of air throughout the building and the air speed the Kit is equipped with smoke cartridges and an airflow / temperature indicator.
3. Colustrum quality
Right after birth calves need to receive colostrum; see our recommendations. The first colostrum contains the highest level of antibodies. The feeding of the cow before calving also has a big influence on the quality of colostrum. To check the colostrum quality the Kit is equipped with a colostrum quality meter.
4. Diarrhoea problems
When calves suffer from diarrhoea problems it is important to known whether they have fever (or not). If it appears to be bacterial, you need to know which bacteria are causing the problem. When the harmful bacteria are identified an adequate advice can be given. Therefore, the Kit is equipped with a fever thermometer and a diarrhoea quick-test.
5. Growth rate
The growth rate in the first two months is very crucial. There is a tight connection between the growth rate, production level and durability of dairy cows. That is why the Kit is also equipped with a Sprayfo measure tape. With the measure tape the specialist can check the chest size (heart girth) of calves.
